This game is a breath of fresh air.

I've been burning out on the like 5 or 6 games I've had on rotation for the past few years, and so far I love everything about Wildermyth. The balance of story to combat is right on, the comic book vibe is a lot of fun, and it's nice to play a D&Dish game without needing to learn a whole bunch of systems.

The complexity here is only a few steps north of Pokemon, so it would make a great entry into RPGs for someone who is daunted by eg BG3 or Pathfinder. But as someone who loves the complex games for sure, stepping into these comic book stories that flow like table top D&D when everybody cares more about story than rules is a ton of fun.

Simply put, this is an incredible game that is BURSTING with heart. I quickly found myself falling in love with my characters, relishing in their discoveries and eagerly anticipating how their personal and collective stories will deepen. Occasionally, even mourning their loss through a very fair death system, though still heartbreaking. The characters grow on you, and begin to really matter, all the while discover the amazing world they take you through, filled with some amazing and unique magic.

The fights are very engaging to say the least, and as you play more and more, and again and again, you get to deepen strategies and builds, allowing you to overcome even more challenging foes. Not to mention, the replayability it through the roof as you're able to reawaken your favorite heroes and bring ones from different adventures together, creating new paths and opportunities for them, and also allowing them to become even stronger than when you first experienced them!

Don't skip this game!

There's a lot of divisive politics injected in the game but if you can ignore that it's great! It's fun building characters and getting cool powers and transformations. The story and legacy mechanics are fun!
