The only way they could use this to target you is if they're using some kind of program that lets them locate specific players. This is cheating, and if you suspect they're doing it you can file a ticket on the official discord.
A way you can test this is by hitting the ~ key and typing "UseRandomName." This will change your name in the chat box and the player list. If they're actually cheating, this won't fool them and they will zero in on your location; but if they are fooled, then they're just trying to intimidate you.
Exactly this! I do suspect it's just intimidation tactics but like you said, you can basically prove if they're cheating or not by doing that command and if they are? banned.
Though if they keep targeting you specifically i'm sure it comes under harassment so if you could also prove that as well that could probably get them banned too.
