CoD: Vanguard seems to have swastikas censored
Another WW2 game without swastikas. Hurray for censorship ruining immersion!

I liked it better when most games with nazi imagery were just banned in Germany altogether. In recent years almost all developers have been too lazy to jump through governmental hoops to get authorisation to publish WW2 games with swastikas in Germany (the only exception that I can think of were Machine Games' Wolfenstein reboot series). Now everybody typically gets a "one size fits all" global version with censorship applied across the board, because developers are too lazy to maintain censored SKUs specifically for Germany.

I made this thread to inform people of the situation. I fully expect it'll get ♥♥♥♥ up by the usual corporate shills and apologists who come out of woodwork to defend anti-artistic expression and/or anti-consumer decisions like they always do on the Steam forums.

Ofc it does, why wouldn't it, it's a 2021 Activision game, what you expect

germany is not a small population thats a big chunk of change activision loses if they release a game that cannot be published in germany and as everyone has learned the past what like 12 years? is that activision could give two ♥♥♥♥♥ as long as they get paid

They could still make a censored version specifically for Germany.

Like clock work, corporate slaves coming out of the woodwork to defend their masters.

Regardls of your politics, this image was clearly approved by several departments before it could be approved for release. And its also yet another example of that whole " these days, a white person cant be depicted on a mass media piece, unlss he or shes accompanied by blacks, gays , etc."
Political correctness is one thing, we're talking specifically about censorship. (I realise the latter is often caused by the former, but I don't think that's the case here.) Not having swastikas in WW2 fiction is censorship. Seeing the likes of German soldiers with iron crosses on their red armbands instead of the swastika can certainly be immersion breaking. The Germans will likely be portrayed as dehumanised villains as usual, so my conclusion is that they're just likely being lazy in applying for permission from the German govt to show swastikas.

As for addressing being PC, "muh representation" is fine where it makes sense. Judging from the trailer here they seem to have a campaign mission where you play as a Russian sniper lady, relying on stealth. That alone is a far cry from the ridiculousness of Battlefield 5 reveal trailer which had a paraplegic woman fighting on the frontlines for Britain. (MP will probably be a clusterf**k of immersion breaking nonsense, with the likes of Fortnite-esque fluorescent camo skins, but at least the campaign is seeming to be pretty grounded so far.)

the female sniper and black soldier are both based on real people one of which was one of the greatest sniper of ww2 lyudmila pavlichenko / lady death also the campaign will most likely have swastikas just like the game we are literally on the discussions for. If you want to play a real immersive ww2 game why don't you just go play hell let loose. COD has not been that in over a decade

not the swastikas! oh the humanity! 1/10 anti-consoomer, anti-artistic, anti-immersion,
a̶n̶t̶i̶-̶w̶h̶i̶t̶e̶, anti-historical

The campaign trailer I posted in the OP shows otherwise. You can see an officer in a tank with an iron cross on his red arm band @ 1:14.

I buy CoD games for the cinematic story-driven campaigns. I highly doubt that a MP-focused indie game will have one those. The most SP content that they usually provide are glorified bot match modes.

Trailer was like that so it could be shown everywhere at once considering the trailer dropped at an exact time everywhere with an in game event. The new cod game will be nothing new campaign wise so why complain “immersion” when it’s not been there in a long time, im saying you want immersive gameplay there’s an abundance of ww2 games out there. Cod will NEVER be that not for a long time or ever again. Activision does not care about your immersion they care about money. If you don’t know this in 2021 you are truely living in the past

German law was changed, that and it wasn't ever really a law. Just some old german boomer's interpretation of the ruling. So yes the German people can have swastikas in their games now, but they always could.

That and game Devs have always made a special version for Germany. It takes no effort to swap out images for someone like Activation.
