This is a perfectly fine game if you like turn-based combat where you travel across a map and look for opponents to fight and people/creatures/stones to help. Yeah, that's right, during my first few hours with the game I ended up helping one talking stone and one carnivorous plant straight out of Little Shop of Horrors. However, I don't know if there are more unusual quest-givers in this game, because I feel done with this game already.

I could have kept playing it, but I simply felt that I'd rather play something more fun, with better writing and combat. Usually, the combat is the weakest part in most games, but you push through it to get better skills, equipment and to advance the plot. Here, I felt indifferent to just about everything. I didn't feel that the skills were worth getting and much of the dialogue wasn't that good and neither were your dialogue choices. The absence of voice acting is one thing, I didn't really expect that, though great or even hilaribad voice acting alone could have kept me playing.

Some text, both early and later on, seemed to have words missing from the NPC dialogue and sometimes from your own dialogue choices. Is that because of sloppiness and/or because the Russian developers Katauri Interactive didn't know better English? I might not have considered that to be something worth mentioning if only the writing itself had been more inspired. To be fair, I wasn't expecting something akin to a great fantasy novel, I'm quite fond of the usual fantasy tropes, but the writing here is just one of many things that I thought could be better and therefore didn't motivate me to find out if it improved further on.

The combat felt a bit primitive at first, but it did get better once I got a skill that allowed one of my units to do a special attack with extra damage. Still, doing fight after fight and leveling up a few times didn't give me much to look forward to, no notable increases in power and fighting ability. The more I played, the more I asked myself "is this it, doesn't the gameplay get better than this?" and eventually I got to the point where I answered my own question with "I don't know and I don't care".

I haven't played that many games like this, so maybe this just isn't my type of game, though I have enjoyed others with grid-based combat and action points, like the Blackguards and Shadowrun franchises. Like I said above, it's perfectly fine if you're a fan of this particular gameplay and don't mind the stuff I found lacking. That's why I'm still recommending it, despite not personally finding enough here to warrant more time with it.
