Disabling Power-Ups and name tags FIX
Hi!

I just bought this game but I hate the Power-Ups and the always visible name tags. I searched the web and turns out that is a mod utilility (for the big WRC games) called Mixfile ReMixer 0.1.6 available for unpacking the .MIX files.

So I checked the DATA.MIX file, inside that file there is a POWERUPS folder, what contains a file called POWERUPS.BML. There is no unpacker for .BML files, so I used a hex editor (HxD) and I changed the "Pickable" options to FALSE, except the last one ('cuz it is not working). I figured out if I changed the first 3 options after the last "Pickable" from 4 to 0 that is completely disabled power-ups.

For the name tags I found the DRIVERNAMES.BML file in the same DATA.MIX file, inside the OVERPRINT3D folder. So I first changed "Size" options to 0 0 0 and after that various [0] - [3] options to [4] and the name tags also disappear.

As I browse the .BML files inside the DATA.MIX container file I noticed that you can change tonns of options by modifying them, like the grapichs and etc...

So here is the modified DATA.MIX file (please BACKUP the original DATA.MIX file): {LINK REMOVED}
Packed with 7-zip, unpack it to "Steam\SteamApps\common\WRC Powerslide".

It is larger than the original file because the Mixfile Remixer utility SBK-X/V8 format is probably not that effective then the original developer tool.

It works fine for me without any bugs or freeze but I just unlocked the Monte Carlo SS3. So please try it out and comment. Sorry for my bad English.

Hey m8, thx so far for your fix! it worx!

But pls, can you use your editor again for some improvements? ;-)

In the game options you can change the modies: Collisions and power ups on or off. It would be better imo, if u change the paramter for "Collisions and power off" with your recent fix. U need only to enable the collisions. In this mode are no powerups-points/spawns on the track!
Leave the "Collisions and power ups on" mode original with powerups on. Your recent fix could make probs in the multiplayer!

Greetings and thx again!

Terrific thanks :)

The above is too complicated for me but if you could make a Data file with powerups off and collisions on that woud be great. Thanks.

So...if I use your mix file I get power ups = OFF, while I have colisions with other cars on?
Also I get names off?

If I may answer this as I am using the file. You get powerups off and collisions off (which you get in game anyway if you choose it in the menu) and you get names off.

So really all it does it remove the names.

Thats why I have asked the chap for what you have mentioned in your post.

First of all, a big thanks KaLeun, for this small mod which makes this game 10 times more fun than it is already.

I bought the game yesterday and tried this and it does exactly which everyone here wants.

To people asking above, it disables power ups completely , yet it keeps collision on and it removes the big ugly names too. Make sure in game you don't have Power ups/Collision off, otherwise u won't be able to see the difference.

With the mod, the power up stars will be on the track as normal, but the AI can't use it coz its disabled, but collision works like normal.

But I think it doesn't works online, yet to try online, having too much fun in single player only ,

For single player only, its a great mod which fixes the main problem which everyone has with the game. I have only unlocked tracks till Portugal , it has worked fine till now.

This Mod + Hard Difficulty, is so much fun without the annoying power ups.

Yes I see you are correct but having the stars still on the track is highly annoying to me, but I guess this is the best we can get.

I assumed still having the stars on the track meant the powerups were still working. I have never ever played with powerups on so I didn't know they were disabled. (I still dont know what they do or what happens and neither was I aware the AI could also use them)

Thanks for bringing more clarity.

Well, if you have powerups disable from the game options you don't get to see the starts on the track. Would using this mod force them to appear?

Thanks Steam for automaticly removing links instead of flagging them and ALLOWING us to click them at own risk.

KaLeun, could you send me the link/mod please? I have have great interest in your mod since I think it would GREATLY improve the experience of this game.

Looks like I'm the only one having this problem, after making the new data.mix with driver's names gone like the instruction said, steam gives me an error saying that the data.mix file is corrupted and then the game in my library get status "running" and there is no way to shut it down, not even by forcefully shutting down steam. The game is "running" and yet there is nowhere to be seen, not even it's process. I guess I did something wrong, idk. But I did follow all the instructions. I guess I'll have to race with those ugly car names on, also what's up with powerups, no matter what I pick is always something bad for me, always.
