I noticed when you get to the Gamurda Mines halfway through the game, the music is great and even has chime sounding call backs to Secret of Mana's Ceremony track:

I think the music can be subtle but very atmospheric in places like the towns; while other areas like dungeons and fields are more dynamic, adventurous and layered. And the battle versions sound even better!
