I really want to like this game. I love the match 3 system for powerups and the visual style is awesome, but I just can't. I see the devs read reviews sometimes so want to be as constructive as possible.

The whole point, I think, of these games is to feel the power of smashing through huge waves of baddies with a variety of ridiculous weapons and powers and after a few hours with this I still haven't felt that. A couple of times it came close but all I was rewarded with was an unplayable framerate and then the boss dies and that's it start again on new level.

The UI, oh my the UI, is not good the skill selection menu compressed into a small box in the centre screen which makes it seem cluttered. There's no colour coding on the various skill attributes which makes it difficult to see what goes with what without hovering over everything I'd rather the attributes were colour coded than the level of them. Greying out everything when you have no points to purchase is another issue again requires hovering to read. Having to click then confirm either buy or lock is frustrating and slows down the game, I'd rather just rightclick lock left click buy. I also loathe having to hold R to switch to autoaim and that I have to do it every single time I start, this could be an option in the menu ala Halls of Torment and can be switched in game.

It's also difficult to know what skills will actually combine into something as I cannot see them listed anywhere so it's a guessing game but a frustrating one. You also can only hover over for the tooltip when in the buying menu no pressing escape to check things out. When you make a match it automatically puts it in the inactive list of skills for utterly no reason which I often miss and end up with my best ability in the inactive list. Picking up a chest from bosses which gives abilities is infuriating as 9/10 I have a full board and have no option to sell them for points or anything just makes me not want to pick things up which is hard to avoid as you need to dodge enemies or if your build demands you be close to them and auto collect when they die.

The Grind. This game seems very grindy I feel like I need all the upgrades to actually get the powerfantasy but they come so slowly unlike Vampire Survivors where I feel I only need those boosts much later in the game. Also not being able to deselect them individually is irritating. This is all compounded by there being no stat boosts you can pick up in level. The deck building aspect does nothing for me and I vastly prefer the system in VS but it's mostly because I can't just build decks I want I have to keep playing to unlock skills, also not being able to manually rename decks but only pick from a preset list of names... why? Seriously why can't I call decks what I want?

I've put 4 hours in and honestly I feel like I've seen enough. I've no idea if there is a survival mode or somesuch that might be more enjoyable, might be an unlock for finishing the game but I just don't really feel compelled to keep going. There also seems to only be the one map so you'll be looking at the same backdrop the entire time. Honestly I feel mostly frustrated playing this more than anything and with other games in the genre by the hour in mark I'm feeling like a boss but in this I just feel like I don't get it despite understanding the mechanics.

I bought this with Despots Game in a pack and much like that game I can see there's a kernal of something great in there but it's just not being brought out though I will say at least this game is priced appropriately which Despots game certainly isn't.

I'm optimistic more updates or a sequel might change the game a bit but for now I'd say this is a crowded market and Slime3K doesn't seperate itself from the pack. As I said at the start I want to love this game it has a lot going for it but something didn't come together in the execution.

If you're looking for a game like this I'd say Vampire Survivors, Twenty Mins til Dawn, Hall of Torment, and Brotato are all much better bets and just less frustrating over all.

Watched Northernlion play it and thought it looked good. Been having a lot of fun with it so far.

Good for its price, but definitely shouldn't be verified for steam deck, some levels go under 1 FPS just by the sheer amount of enemies, for example the last minute for level 10.
