It's been a bit disenheartening to play 4X games recently. I only play them in single player and the levels of AI have been catastrophic. On higher difficulty levels devs just give them those crazy bonuses which they just squander anyway. I keep losing planets. instantly. fleets out of nowhere appear and take my planets with no warning. the must have massive range, they land troops and take multiple planets in one turn. short of stationing large fleets at every world, is there any way to defend?...

Something that Irks me to no end. My civ is pragmatic, and I try to avoid wars if possible (mainly because of wasted resources). In regards to the Altarians; my nearest neighbors. There are quite a few very poorly developed things about this game that really irks me, but this has got to be one of the worst. Benevolent races should not be going around the Galaxy systematically committing cultural genocide against minor races. It makes a nonsense of so-called benevolent ideology. So are there any mods that will stop them from doing this? Alternatively is there a simple way to script in behaviour to stop it?
