Maybe it's best if you provided an example we could work out.
Mostly, we don't really play to win but win like 30% of our casual games (more or less, this weekly pack I got from many loss to lots of wins once I got the hang of it). Could be more but also, trying weird things and risky teams is really fun and what keeps us playing.
I never knew you could face people in different packs though ? Like, are you sure the normal pack makes you face the weekly pack ? I thought it was always normal vs normal, weekly vs weekly, custom vs custom, etc ?
Where it gets a bit harder and more frustrating is with custom packs. I did a few in the past to try to fit all sniping abilities together, all buy/sell, but... it both got boring to always play the same thing, and some strategies are better than others (before nerf, vampire bat + bacteria (or is it microbe, i don't remember), was a good example). But still fun to try wild things.
I wouldn't be surprised though, that even if there are new people starting the game, many have gotten the hang of it and get stronger strategies going. Especially if you go undefeated in the early game, you'll face teams that have the same amount of win/loss as you, and some really are min-maxed. But still, it means you had a good enouh strategy that you can salvage it, although not with a perfect streak.
I don't have money for DLC so I play the weekly rotation all the time, it kills time for me while waiting for things.
I was also a little frustrated at first, but all I had to do was watch the teams that would beat me to see how I should improve.
I still don't win a whole lot, but its not like I expect to win every single match I start to begin with.
For me the packs got progressively worse and worse, the latest one was such a cluster♥♥♥♥ of overcomplicated mechanics and poor balance Iit turned me off completely
