i tried the 2.4 ghz band on the router, that works, but its way slower than the rest. This router has no issues with any other devices on my network and im not looking to replace it.

What make/model is your router?

It's not unusual for some WiFi chips to not like some routers or configurations.

AVM FRITZ!Box 7530AX
and
AVM FRITZ!Box 7560

What bands are you using for WiFi 6?

I have a PC with a AX200 that does not like my Asus routers 160Mhz mode and keeps dropping out, I set the router to automatic or anything but 160Mhz and it stopped doing that.

I have a FRITZ!Box 7530 and I have the same problem. Very annoying if you are downloading huge games.

Im testing currently but it might have to do with wlan power saving. I ran sudo iw wlan0 set power_save off and it seems better now

Can't configure the bandwidth on the router, but can set it to
802.11n+ac+ax (Wi-Fi 6)
802.11n+ac (Wi-Fi 5)
802.11a+n (Wi-Fi 4)
None of this helped, though.

Only remedy so far is to disable 5GHz completely on the router.

For me after running
sudo iw wlan0 set power_save off
it seems solved? Maybe the power saving is too agressive on the wireless card. So far it seems good with me. @valve maybe you guys can investigate and confirm? i stared at the screen for a while and havnt seen it drop.

Wifi constantly drops on my Deck as well. The signal bar seems to get better when the Deck is downloading something (run a speed test in desktop mode and the signal goes from ~50% to ~100%), which in turn indeed suggests broken power savings. Turning it off with the above command (but `pkexec` instead of sudo since sudo requires a password for me) and so far it has not dropped.

I have Synology RT-1900ac routers and no other device has issues with those.

Honestly I don't quite understand Valve's decision to go with Realtek wireless on a Linux device. Their Linux support has never been great with all sorts of issues.

im happy it fixed it for you as well. If valve doesnt reply to this i will make a support request to them and see if there is anything they can do in terms of tweaks in rootfs, i saw a bunch of other helpful tweaks, but those would be overwritten with an update :(. Also if you want to set a password for sudo you can run passwd, and input a password.

Maybe try forcing it to either 20/40/80 Mhz.
